Let’s take a look at the latest MLB news and notes, including a history-making night for the Texas Rangers and Tampa Bay Rays as well as a welcome sight for San Diego Padres fans.
MLB news: Adolis García adds his name to Texas Rangers history books
While we may not be the biggest fans of the City Connect uniforms debuted by the Texas Rangers on Friday night, we certainly can’t argue with the results that the club put up while wearing them.
Adolis García hit three home runs off Oakland A’s pitchers and became just the fourth player in AL/NL history to record three homers and two doubles in the same game during the 18-3 mauling by the Rangers in Arlington. No other American League player has ever accomplished that feat, and Garcia did it while totaling eight RBI.
Garcia also added his name to the MLB record book by tying the all-time record with five extra-base hits on the night. That’s a feat that’s only been accomplished 14 times before Garcia went wild against Oakland.

Tampa Bay Rays news: History made with home run
Speaking of history, Randy Arozarena blasted a two-run, first-inning home run on Saturday night off Chicago White Sox starter Dylan Cease. With that shot, the Rays have now hit a home run in each of their first 21 games while going 18-3 in those contests. That’s a new home run record to open a season, erasing the Seattle Mariners who hit a long ball in each of their first 20 games in 2019.

With the 4-3 victory over the White Sox on Saturday, Tampa Bay is now 12-0 at Tropicana Park this season.
San Diego Padres news: Fernando Tatis Jr. goes yard
It took Tatis just three games to record his first MLB regular-season home run since the 2021 campaign, sending one over the left field fence at Chase Field on Saturday night.

Tatis has given the Padres a lift since his return to the lineup after finishing out his PED suspension. San Diego has won two of three games with the 24-year-old All-Star back in the lineup, injecting some life into a Padres team that has gone 11-12 through its first 23 games.
